EXCLUSIVE: Selection saga could destroy Sharks season.

EXCLUSIVE: The Cronulla Sharks title race is in disarray after revelations that captain Wade Graham will play 5 positions in every game of the finals.

The Sharks are expected to remain in 2nd position on the ladder after Sunday’s game against the Newcastle Knights, but could destroy their title hopes in game 1 of the finals.

“Wade has been selected at back row, but will also play lock, wing, prop and fullback in game 1 of the finals, and throughout the rest of the finals series depending on how many games we win,” revealed an anonymous source from within the club.

“He’s a great leader, so he can play in every position at once, even though they’re completely different and on different parts of the field. Plus, don’t forget he used to play in the halves.”

The puzzling selection means the team will field only 9 players in game 1, and it was initially thought to be a tactic to cover for the absence of Will Kennedy (fullback), Sione Katoa (wing) Toby Rudolf (prop) and Dale Finucane (lock). However, club insiders are adamant they have enough depth to fill these gaps.

“You’ve gotta have a strong squad to be second on the ladder.”

Even more shocking to Cronulla fans and the rugby league world is that the selection was apparently made without telling the 4 players concerned, the rest of the team, or coach Craig Fitzgibbon. They all found out via a reporter from this publication.

The source also revealed that players asked Graham why he didn’t take over from Nicho Hynes at halfback, considering it’s such a vital position. He apparently replied:

“I don’t feed a scrum mate!”

The insider said the club is still coming to terms with such an unprecedented move, and nobody understands why Graham would make such a huge decision at a time when the club needs stability more than ever, and why he formed a special new ‘selection committee’ of which he is the only member. Rumours are circulating that Graham also told teammates he doesn’t even need to be on the field to lead the team, casting more doubt on the team’s chances of winning the premiership.

“Wade appointed himself to all 5 positions, that’s correct. Technically as captain he can do that, but it’s still a bizarre decision. We know that Craig wasn’t told, nor the players, trainers, fans – nobody.”

“Apparently the only other person with the power to sign off on this and keep it secret is our no.1 ticket holder – Scott Morrison.”
