Wests Tiger’s player Kyle Lovett has earned a nomination for the 2017 Frownlow Medal after being caught with a special sort of ointment.
The forward was charged with possession of an illicit substance recently and joins fellow footballers in the race for Australia’s most prestigious inter-code award.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. Kiwi international and Sydney Roosters player Shaun Kenny Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while Corey Norman from the Parramatta Eels won in 2016.
Lovett will also find out in he coming weeks if he keeps his contract with the Tiger’s and if he plays NRL at all this season.
In the meantime, he can sit back and assess his Frownlow Medal chances against colleagues who disgraced themselves through alcohol abuse, drug possession, domestic violence, harassment and drink driving.
