A supposedly drug addicted cleaner knocked out powerful Sydney Roosters forward Dylan Napa and in doing so earned the young player a nomination for the 2017 Frownlow Medal.
Napa was knocked out in the early hours of the morning at an exclusive party at Sydney’s Palm Beach and the alleged attacker is accused of being a drug addict hired as a cleaner via the internet.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. Kiwi international and Sydney Roosters player Shaun Kenny Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while Corey Norman from the Parramatta Eels won in 2016.
This is Napa’s second nomination for the Frownlow Medal after he was refused entry on to an international flight earlier this year due to intoxication. He failed to win the highly coveted medal and is hoping that this latest effort will increase his chances of winning next year.
The young Queensalnder was approached for a comment but …he was still unconscious.
