Hawthorn premiership star Brad Hill has been nominated for the 2016 Frownlow Medal following alleged involvement in a violent confrontation at a nightclub.
The young Hawks midfielder is being investigated by police after an incident at Empire nightclub in Narre Warren on January 24.
The Frownlow Medal (nee Downlow Medal) is awarded to the player whose off field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. The first medal was awarded to Sydney Roosters and New Zealand representative Shaun Kenny-Dowall in 2015.
If the investigation finds that Hill is not guilty of any involvement in the incident, it will be very hard for him to defeat other Frownlow nominees such as Sydney Roosters NRL player Mitchell Pearce, who is in contention after interacting with a dog on Australia Day.
